The Valley of Fire State Park - Part 1 A Road trip

The  Valley  of  Fire  State Park is  located  65 miles  NE of  Las  Vegas and  just  North  of Lake  Mead.
You can get  more  info on the  park here:Valley of Fire website. There  is  a  daily fee of  $10.00 per car.
This  is  called  the "Elephant Rock" in this  blog entry We didn't  ride  the  horses  in the  park. This was  mostly a driving and hiking tour  of the  park on a day  that  we were  giving our  mules a  rest  from the  hard riding that we were  doing with them. Enjoy  the  tour of  the  park; The  Scenery  was fantastic!
The  one  problem thatI found  with the  park was  that there  were  only about  three good places to park a  horse  trailer  inside  of  the  park or  it was a long  ways  to ride  to good  scenery. The road  shoulders were  narrow and  in most places , parking  was not  permitted.
One  of  the walking trails  along  the  main roadway.
Scout was  having a  great time  investigating  all of the  holes  in the  rock!
We were wondering  how  hard  it was  going  to be riding  the  mules  on this  slick rock.
Peg and  Scout investigating  some  of those  holes  in the  rocks.

This  ride  was  going to rate  right up there  with Haunted  Canyon and Peralta. Lots of Rock Crawling!
This  is  a  petrified Tree. I can understand  why  it  was  fenced  off. There weren't many  of these  to be seen and  the  area supposably  didn't  have  many  trees. This  one supposably  was  carried  many  miles  by  the  mud flow  to get  here.
Peg loved  all of  the  colors and  the  ruggedness of the  area.
This  is  called  "The cabins". They were built  by the Civiilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in the  early  1930's. They  were pretty  cool!
                                                                 The inside  the cabin.
                                                                        Fireplace
                                                           View  from the  window

The colors in the  rock were Spectacular!
The looks of  the rock is  very deceiving. Look at the center of  this  photo and  you'll see the  person hiking  at  the  bottom. I started  wondering how the  mules  were going  to ride  here with shoes on.
                                                                        Arch  Rock
This was  one of  the ways we got into the  park with the  mules.
We rode  through this area  on the mules  and it was AWESOME but, very  difficult terrain!

The area  called the  "White  Dome" had the  finest  silica  sand that  I have ever seen.

This area  was  like  it was a big  waterfall, thousands of  years  ago.

Driving  into the  Valley  of Fire area  from the  Lake  Mead side.

This  was  a  good  day trip and  worth the visit if  you are  in this  area. But, the  best time  to visit is  in the  fal, Winter and  early  spring. The summer  months the temps can be  up to 115 degrees  Farenheite. There  is  also little  water except when it rains. Then, the washes are  extremley  dangerous  place  to be which was  evident  once  we  started  riding  in the  area.
I hope  you enjoyed  this  blog entry and  hope  that  you'll leave  comments below.
